It’s been a little while since we’ve had an update at Don’t Wake The Scarecrow, but that should change shortly. Today i’ve added a TON of photos and videos to the gallery pages from two nights of music featuring the band Dr. Dog. In Philadelphia on October 23rd and 24th, the band played two concerts at the Theatre of the Living Arts. The shows highlights include the band’s dog strutting on the stage and also a pizza delivery to the audience on the second night. The first batch of photos and videos were shot from the upper balcony towards the back of the venue and the second group were taken from right up front next to the stage. Check them both out and let me know what you think.

It’s been a little while since we’ve had an update at Don’t Wake The Scarecrow. Sorry about that, i’ve been kind of busy with real life work. But I plan on having more posts and updates and downloads on the way soon.
Anyway I have a bunch of photos and videos from the Positive Jam one-day festival at Stewart Park in Ithaca NY on September 6th, 2009. Two of the must-see acts were Deer Tick and The Felice Brothers. They both had excellent sets and won the crowds over easily. An article in The Cornell sun said of the Felice Brothers:
The Felice Brothers came onto the stage like nothing we’d ever seen, wearing face paint, war paint, breaking out into these wild, cross-stage dances as if something was going to explode. They brought out the big guns: an accordion, strange looking guitars, a washboard, a rabid violinist. If you ever doubted that you were going to dance, The Felice Brothers left you no choice.

What’s this? MTV was a part of something innovative and creative involving up and coming musicians who are actually talented? Who would have thought?
Anyway, Here’s a link to an interactive video for the Cold War Kids. It’s more of a game type thing than a video but it’s impressive nonetheless. Basically you have all four members each contributing four different versions of their part for the song I’ve Seen Enough. You have control over the band. By clicking the color you change the instrument/version of the individual band member and then you can mute or unmute the performers by clicking on the guys themselves. Just made the page for the videos of the Big Surprise Tour’s stop at the Beacon Theatre in NYC on August 6th 2009. The show was just amazing. Simply put, just an outstanding collection of artists. Justin Townes Earle, The Felice Brothers, Dave Rawlings Machine and Old Crow Medicine Show all played with their hearts and souls and looked like they had a great time. Just added a bunch of photos and videos from the Dead Weather show at Terminal 5 in NYC on 07-16-09. The show was phenomenal and Jack White & Co. really tore the house down. Highlights were “Will There Be Enough Water” (with Jack on guitar) and “Bone House”. There are a good amount of videos in the video section thanks to the contributions of a few different individuals.
Below is an awesome interview that the Dead Weather put together recently. Gotta love LJ on the organ during the whole thing. The band answers a few questions in an interesting take on the interview process. I’ll be attending the show in NYC tonight and hope to get some good photos. Their debut album, Horehound is currently available for purchase at TheDeadWeather.com.
Also here’s a video directed by Jonathan Glazer for the song “Treat me Like Your Mother” that premiered on Cinemax recently. Glazer has worked on music videos for bands like Radiohead, Jamiroquai, and Massive Attack.

Beck.com has been going under some unique changes lately….all of which are more than welcome by me. In case you haven’t read about some of the recent additions to Beck’s website, here’s an excerpt from a Jambase.com ariticle:
Beck.com will be undergoing an extensive overhaul in the next month. It will feature several new sections, including Record Club - a regular meeting of various musicians to record an entire album in one day. Due to the time constraints involved in recording a record in a day, an album will be chosen to be covered and used as a framework for the proceedings. Nothing will be rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track from these sessions will be uploaded once a week on Beck.com, as well as through the web sites of those involved in the project.
The Record Club is an amazing idea. So far Beck and company (Participants included in the first album covered are Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore, Yo, Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Holmes, and from Iceland, special guest Thorunn Magnusdottir) have put up a few songs from The Velvet Underground & Nico, the classic debut album from The Velvet Underground. As of now there are 3 songs (Sunday Morning, Waiting on my man, and Femme Fatale) that can all be viewed/listened to by heading over to Beck.com.

The second new addition to Beck.dom is called Planned Obsolescence, which is a free weekly stream of a DJ set. The music included in these mixes are from songs Beck and others are listening to. The first edition, titled Autobahn Hologram may sound like random noise at first, but it soon descends into quite a nice mix of tunes. You can listen to it here:
And if these new creative outlets weren’t enough for fans of Beck, there is another section that looks to be a type of informal interview section. Beck.com states, “We are launching another section featuring extended informal conversations with musicians, artists, filmmakers, and other various personages called Irrelevant Topics. The first one up, which took place early last month, is with Tom Waits.” Getting to read what Beck and Tom Waits, a musical genius, just casually discuss is such a treat. Be sure to read the first part of the interview and check back to the site for more installments. Hopefully Beck keeps up the great work and adds more sections to the site.
